UFC president Dana White appeared to confirm he is targeting Jorge Masvidal vs Kamaru Usman.
Welterweight champion Usman defended his title against former interim champion Colby Covington on Saturday night, getting a dramatic late stoppage with 50 seconds to go.
Masvidal has hinted he wants fights with Conor McGregor and boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather in 2020, saying he’s the big ticket at 170 pounds. But it looks like White has other ideas.
“Masvidal verses Usman now is a big deal,” White said at the post-event press conference. “He fought [Nate] Diaz for the ‘BMF’ belt, now he’ll fight for the actual title against a guy who is tough as nails. It’s fun.”


Usman seemed less certain on the idea of his next opponent, suggesting Leon Edwards is also in the frame.
“Who?” he responded when Masvidal’s name was mentioned at the press conference.

“Man there’s a lot of tough guys in the division. If you talking about someone deserving, Leon Edwards has been finishing guys,” Usman added.
“He’s now found himself in the position I found myself in a little over year ago. Everyone knew I was one of the toughest guys out there.
“Right now I’m sitting above looking at these guys, it’s very tightly contested. They just need to break out. I’m waiting for Dana and whoever the organisation thinks is waiting for me. I’m champion, if they say that’s the next guy, that’s the next guy.”
