Nate Diaz has hinted at retirement – or at least another lengthy lay-off from the Octagon – as the fallout from the UFC 244 medical stoppage continues.
The cageside doctor ruled Diaz was unable to continue before the start of the fourth round against Jorge Masvidal at Madison Square Garden last weekend. The Stockton fighter had a nasty cut above his right eye, and one below it.
Diaz demanded an immediate rematch, and Masvidal – who was crowned the “BMF” champion in New York – said he would gladly run it back.
But UFC president Dana White sees “Gamebred” moving on, with a welterweight title shot on the cards.


“F*** a rematch this s*** was over before it started,” Diaz tweeted. “I’m going on out on tour. Peace out fight game.”
Diaz was likely facing an extended stint on the sidelines anyway – he needed 25 stitches in his cuts, and White said the doctor told him he would need plastic surgery to repair the wound.

That didn’t stop Diaz taking jabs at the UFC. “I can already see the f***ery coming,” he said at the post-event press conference.
“I know how this game works. I give all the rematches and make names for people. I brought the president, straight up. I don’t see the president going to no title fights.”
Before the Masvidal fight, Diaz had only just returned from a three-year lay-off in August, beating Anthony Pettis by unanimous decision.
