ONE Championship: Anissa Meksen hopes to cap off career with strawweight kickboxing crown
The French fighter has won many belts but says a title with ONE Championship, and at her natural weight, will be ‘best moment of my career’
Anissa Meksen joined ONE Championship to win a title. She had already claimed numerous belts during her career competing in Muay Thai and kickboxing but wanted to add another to the collection in the final stages of her career.
The French fighter came up short against Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom at ONE Friday Fights 46 last year. That fight had the atomweight kickboxing title on the line but she will get a second chance to go for gold next month.
Meksen is facing Jackie Buntan at ONE 169 next month in a fight that will have the inaugural strawweight kickboxing title on the line. The French fighter signed with ONE Championship in 2020 and has been “waiting” to win a belt ever since.
“I’ve been waiting four years for this,” Meksen said. “That’s why my motivation is very high. I really want to take this belt.”
Meksen is moving up in weight but will still enjoy a height advantage over Buntan. If anything, she has been struggling to make the atomweight limit and will be more comfortable at strawweight.
“It’s my natural weight, so I haven’t had to care about weight or my diet or anything like that,” Meksen said.
“I’ve just stayed focused on my training. I’ve just put on a little bit of muscle for more power, but that’s it. I’m in my best shape now. I’ve trained hard, and everything is perfect.”
