The American, ONE Championship’s inaugural flyweight submission grappling champ, is set to defend his belt against Saudi Arabia’s Osamah Almarwai at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5 in Denver, which will be the promotion’s first event in the United States.

ONE revealed the submission grappling title fight on social media on Tuesday.

New Jersey-born Musumeci, 26, won ONE’s flyweight submission grappling title in late September of last year, when he defeated Brazil’s Cleber Sousa by unanimous decision.

He has defended his belt one time in the intervening months, defeating Mongolia’s Bayanduuren Gantumur. That victory also came by way of decision, though not for lack of trying on Musumeci’s part.

The champion had his opponent locked up in leg lock for the bulk of the 10-minute contest, and while he never got the tap, he left his foe with a torn ACL, MCL, meniscus and broken ankle.

Almarwai, who also represents Yemen, will be making his ONE debut. However, he has collected some impressive accolades outside the Circle.
