ONE Championship: Superlek stuns Haggerty in 49 seconds to win bantamweight Muay Thai belt
Haggerty took an aggressive approach in this rematch and was made to pay as he was unable to recover after lunging into a hard right elbow
Superlek Kiatmoo9 finished off Jonathan Haggerty inside 49 seconds in their main event bout at ONE 168 to become the new bantamweight Muay Thai world champion.
Haggerty took an aggressive approach in this rematch and was made to pay, unable to recover after lunging into a hard right elbow.
The incumbent champion looked to take the fight to his rival from the opening bell as he attacked with punches and kicks, but the challenger stood his ground and waited for an opening.
And just 30 seconds in, Haggerty launched a right hand but Superlek timed his attack perfectly as he stepped forward to land a devastating elbow, which connected with his opponent’s ear and sat him down.
The Englishman was conscious but unable to recover in time and the referee signalled Superlek was the winner and new champion.
“Haggerty is incredible but I knew my plan,” Superlek said. “I saw the opening and when he wanted to throw the cross I threw the elbow and got the knockout.”
