Freddie Haggerty is dreaming of a spot at ONE 168 after his first-round victory over Kaichon Sor Yingchaoenkarnchang at ONE Friday Fights 72 last week.
The rising star bagged US$10,000 (HK$78,000) for the victory, his second of the year, but had to overcome adversity with both fighters trading knock-downs in the opening round at Lumpinee Stadium.
Haggerty was proud of the strike that dropped Kaichon but said he still had no idea how he ended up on the canvass.
“That first knockdown, that uppercut I felt it land and he dropped like a sack of potatoes, it was lovely,” he said. “My team told me to calm down, but I think I got drawn in and that’s when he clipped me.
“I don’t know what he clipped me with but I got back up, composed myself and landed a sweet right hand.”

Kaichon was in no condition to continue and the referee waved off the fight with just a second remaining in the opening round. Haggerty has won two fights already this year at ONE Championship’s weekly Lumpinee Stadium events and is hoping for a spot on one of the Saturday cards.
He does not just want to fight on any event though. The Englishman is hoping for a chance to compete at ONE 168 in Denver which his brother, Jonathan, is headlining,
“I’m eager to go again I’ll be honest, Denver would be amazing, not sure if it’s possible but whenever Chatri is ready,” he added.
The older Haggerty is defending his bantamweight Muay Thai belt against Superlek Kiatmoo9 in Denver and, while he 19 year old has not been given any indication a spot on that card awaits him, he said it would be “amazing” to be involved.
Haggerty is very confident his brother will beat Superlek. The Thai fighter is moving up from the flyweight division and he thinks that will prove to be a costly error.
“I think Superlek’s going to make a mistake on the weight, he’s going to think he can just eat a little bit more and not bulk up properly,” Haggerty junior said. “That’s going to effect his gas tank and I know how it’s gonna go, I think Jon’s going to wear him out and finish him.”
Being the younger brother of a fighter who has won three different ONE Championship titles will not do his career prospects any harm at all.
The Englishman’s stock is rising rapidly and he hopes his next fight will be taking place on American soil.
