‘Landmark’ Go Park Sai Sha set to provide Hong Kong with elite, grass roots sport boost
New 1.3-million square feet Ma On Shan complex features host of top-class indoor and outdoor sports facilities
The “landmark” new Go Park Sai Sha complex has the capacity to improve Hong Kong’s elite sports performance and grow sports participation in the city.
That is the view of two of the leading figures from Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP), the developers of the groundbreaking 1.3-million square feet venue in Ma On Shan.
Raymond Kwok Ping-luen, the chairman and managing director of SHKP, said Go Park, which features world-class indoor and outdoor sports facilities, would grow “public enjoyment of sports” and act as a “beautiful backyard for every Hong Kong citizen”.
SHKP’s executive director Adam Kwok Kai-fai, meanwhile, said the “one-of-its-kind” complex would drive the commercialisation of the sports sector in Hong Kong, while providing a “first-in-class” home for academies from various sports.
Go Park’s 12 outdoor facilities, which include an artificial football pitch, an Olympic-standard lacrosse field, a golf driving range and plush tennis, padel and pickleball courts, are all independently operated.
“We are allowing lots of sports operators to commercialise their operations,” Adam Kwok said, at the facilities official opening this week.
