Basketball game to be first indoor test event at Kai Tak Sports Park, sources say
Clash between Hong Kong’s under-22 National Games squad and City University expected to take place next month
The first test event at the indoor arena of Kai Tak Sports Park has been scheduled for early December, the Post has been told.
Local officials said the Hong Kong men’s under-22 team, which will represent the city at next year’s National Games, would take on City University at Kai Tak Arena on December 7.
Sources told the Post that government officials had wanted to also host a schools game on the same day, but scheduling for the Inter-School competition meant it was not possible. The Division One Boys A Grade final was expected to take place two days earlier.
“It’s difficult to ask the teams to play another match just two days later, and it’s [getting close] to the schools’ examination periods,” a source said. “As to why our men’s under-22 team are playing, that’s because we hope they want to have more match experience ahead of the National Games next year.”
Another source told the Post officials had been testing various seating arrangements to simulate different scenarios of a “three-sided, or a four-sided” stage.
