Local officials said the Hong Kong men’s under-22 team, which will represent the city at next year’s National Games, would take on City University at Kai Tak Arena on December 7.

Sources told the Post that government officials had wanted to also host a schools game on the same day, but scheduling for the Inter-School competition meant it was not possible. The Division One Boys A Grade final was expected to take place two days earlier.

“It’s difficult to ask the teams to play another match just two days later, and it’s [getting close] to the schools’ examination periods,” a source said. “As to why our men’s under-22 team are playing, that’s because we hope they want to have more match experience ahead of the National Games next year.”

The basketball match will not be the only test event at the indoor facility next month, with a performance show also scheduled at the 10,000-seat arena.

Another source told the Post officials had been testing various seating arrangements to simulate different scenarios of a “three-sided, or a four-sided” stage.
