There’s never a dull weekend when referees and officials get to decide important outcomes – where would we be without them. Happier, certainly. Less argumentative, unlikely.

Not for the first time it’s the big guns who got the big calls, and there might be something in Wolves boss Gary O’Neil’s claims of “subconscious bias” when it comes to decision making.

Manchester City hardly need the help on their march to more Premier League glory. And the 2-1 win at Molineux was just one of the things that happened while you were sleeping.

The real deal?

Victory at home to Chelsea put Arne Slot in a unique position among Liverpool managers, he is the only one to have won 10 of his first 11 games in charge.

Curtis Jones’ second-half winner took the Reds back to the top of the Premier League, restoring the single point advantage they started the day with. A Mohamed Salah penalty in the 29th minute, was cancelled out by Nicholas Jackson’s solo effort three minutes after the break. But parity lasted only three minutes more, before Jones steered in Salah’s cross at the far post.

Chelsea had been seen as an acid test of Liverpool’s title credentials, but Slot was having none of it. His side face Arsenal, Brighton, Aston Villa and Manchester City in four of their next five Premier League games, as well as Champions League ties against RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid before the end of November.
