Hong Kong’s Paralympians honoured at welcome home ceremony, talk of Paris pride
Chief Executive John Lee presents members of 23-strong Games delegation with certificates of commendation
Hong Kong’s Paralympians were honoured at a welcome home ceremony on Monday, and spoke of their pride at representing the city at the Paris Games.
Members of the city’s 23-strong delegation were presented with certificates of commendation from Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu during an event at Ma On Shan Sports Centre, Sha Tin, before heading for lunch at Government House.
At this year’s Games, Hong Kong’s Paralympians won three gold, four silver and one bronze medal, as well as making it to the top eight in 16 sports. The delegation finished 32nd overall, its highest position since London 2012.
“I’m so grateful, because our Hong Kong team’s results this time are very good, especially in boccia,” said Ho Yuen-kei, who won gold in the women’s individual BC3 event.
“These good results are actually thanks to the heroes behind them, including the [Hong Kong] Sports Institute, the Sports Association for the Physically Disabled [of Hong Kong, China], and even the citizens of Hong Kong, who have always supported us.”
Daniel Chan Ho-yuen, who was competing in his last Paralympics, won silver in the men’s singles WH2 badminton.
