Livingstone leads England revival, United beat City, what happened overnight in world of sport
League football is back after the international break, and there is some good news for Tottenham ahead of their clash with Arsenal
Another weekend rolls around, and with it the prospect of 48 hours of almost non-stop sporting action. Be that football, cricket, golf, NFL, baseball, Formula One or UFC there really is something for everyone over the next two days.
Of course, if you can’t watch it all, there will be this handy wrap up in your inbox every morning, which today has updates on the first three of those mentioned above.
If that wasn’t enough, we have the latest from the world of athletics too. What more could you ask for? So, here’s what happened while you were sleeping.
Are you ready for some football?
Now the international break is over we can get back to the important stuff, like Sheffield United beating Hull City 2-0 in the Championship. OK, so maybe not important, but at least it signals the return of club football, which is only ever a good thing.
United’s win was their third in five games, meaning they have now won as many league matches this season as they managed in the whole of 2023-24 when they finished bottom of the Premier League. Hull, in contrast, are winless in six league and cup matches so far.
In more important news for Spurs fans, and Fantasy Premier League managers everywhere, Tottenham Hotspur’s new striker Dominic Solanke should be available for Sunday’s clash with Arsenal. Signed from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £65 million (US$85.47 million), Solanke made his debut against Leicester City, but missed the next two games with an ankle injury.
All to play for
Liam Livingstone smashed a magnificent 87 from 47 balls as England beat Australia by three wickets to level their three match T20 series 1-1 at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens.
His second half-century in his 50th T20 match for England came after Australia, with Jake Fraser-McGurk hitting his first international 50, had set the hosts a target of 194.
