BWF World Tour: Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen shows Angus Ng no mercy at Hong Kong Open
But home fans are able to cheer victories for the city’s Paris Olympians at Hong Kong Coliseum
Viktor Axelsen recorded a commanding victory over hometown hopeful Angus Ng Ka-long at badminton’s Hong Kong Open on Wednesday evening.
The Dane showed some of the form that brought him a second successive Olympic gold in Paris last month, as he dispatched Ng 21-11, 21-12 at Hong Kong Coliseum.
Earlier, Ng’s fellow Hongkonger Lee Cheuk-yiu, who also featured at the Paris Games, managed a 21-18, 21-19 victory over China’s Lu Guangzu.
Lee was not the only recent Hong Kong Olympian in action, with the city’s leading mixed doubles pair Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet, the No 3 seeds, beating Taiwan’s Wang Chi-lin and Hsu Yin-hui 22-20, 21-17.
Hong Kong’s Reginald Lee Chun-hei and Yoyo Ng Tsz-yau progressed in the same competition, overcoming Malaysia’s Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien 21-16, 19-21, 21-14.
