China will leave as the dominant team, with a medal haul that hit 83 golds overnight, 41 more than second-placed Great Britain. And there are more up for grabs before Sunday’s closing ceremony.

Ollie Pope, meanwhile, showed he could be England captain and score runs, while Erling Haaland didn’t score, which was a surprise. Here then, is what happened while you were sleeping.

Swims like a fish

Jiang Yuyan was already an Olympic gold medallist twice over before she got to Paris, now the Chinese swimmer has eight to her name.

The 19-year-old, whose nickname is ‘Flying Fish’, took her sixth gold of the Games in the women’s S6 400m freestyle, winning in a time of 5 minutes, 12.07 seconds. Switzerland’s took Nora Meister took silver in 5:16.53, and Team GB’s Maisie Summers-Newton claimed bronze in 5:21.36.

“In an interview I said that fish just have one tail and I just have one leg so I felt very honoured to swim like a fish,” Jiang said. “And after this interview, the fans called me ‘Flying Fish’.”
