Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey broke the Mare Nostrum Swim Tour record for the women’s 200-metre freestyle again on Saturday, just two days after she knocked down the one that had gone unchallenged for 12 years.
Haughey’s time of one minute, 54.53 seconds in Monaco not only shaved 0.04 seconds off the time she set in Barcelona on Thursday, but was half a second faster than her performance in the principality last year.
Britain’s Freya Anderson took silver in 1:58.45, with Portugal’s Francisca Martins third in 1:59.13.
Haughey’s win on Saturday completed a clean sweep of wins in the 200m free in all three legs of the Mediterranean swim meet, earning her an additional €1,050 (HK$8,900).
Overall, the 26-year-old has picked up six gold medals at the tournament this year, three in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, last weekend, two in Barcelona this week, and one in Monaco.
Haughey will race in the 100m freestyle, where she has another chance at winning €1,050 and the 50m breaststroke on Sunday.
Also on Saturday, Hong Kong’s Adam Chillingworth finished fifth in the 200m breaststroke A final, with a time of 2:11.57. That race was won by Japan’s former world record holder Ippei Watanabe in 2:07.82.
