Defending their title, the hosts’ senior team were never troubled as four goals from captain Sally Tang Yi-ting helped them breeze past the visiting J Connection from Japan 13-6 at the University of Hong Kong’s Stanley Ho Sports Centre.

“We have started to prepare for the World Championship qualifiers, which begins in January 2025,” Gemini Fan Tak-kwan, head coach for the city’s women’s team, said.

“So, here at the Hong Kong Open, we will be looking to see where we are right now, so as to prepare for our training in the second half of the year.

“The team in this tournament is the strongest we have currently and we are playing to defend our title, but Japanese team SELL has nine national team members on their team so the competition is there.”
