Both damaged their rights knees in the space of 24 hours at the World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship in July 2022, and said they were nervous about returning to international competition.

While Woo started her playing comeback in September, Chak needed a second operation and only returned last month.

“I am happy to return but I am nervous at the same time,” Chak said. “I am afraid I will injure myself again and be out of action for another extended period.

“When I first returned, my stamina was horrible and my moves were clumsy, but I slowly regained confidence after some practice.”

The 33-year-old Woo, who made her Hong Kong debut in 2015, fought back tears as she talked about her fear of not being able to compete at a high level on her return.
