Asian Games 2023: Siobhan Haughey wins first swimming gold as Hong Kong claims seven more medals – day 2, as it happened

Siobhan Haughey has delivered for Hong Kong by winning gold in the pool on day 2 of the Hangzhou Asian Games, with the city adding seven medals overall on Monday, and increasing its tally to 14 – enough for fifth place in the standings.
The double Olympic silver medallist claimed her third medal of these Games as she dominated the 200m freestyle final – her favoured event.
It was double delight for Hong Kong’s swimmers, with Ian Ho Yentou winning silver in the preceding race, the men’s 50 metres freestyle final.
After a busy Sunday in Hangzhou, with Hong Kong snaring seven medals in all on a packed first full day of competition, Chiu Hin-chun got things started in the water and picked up a bronze in the men’s single sculls rowing final. There was soon a silver in the women’s pairs event from Cheung Hoi-lam and Leung King-wan.
Wushu athlete Liu Xuxu also added a silver to the city’s medal tally in the women’s changquan final in the morning. Not to be outdone, Samuel Hui Tak-yan then took silver in the men’s all-round final in the afternoon.
And last but not least, Daphne Chan Nok-sze added Hong Kong’s fourth fencing medal at these Games with a bronze in the individual women’s foil.
