Hong Kong’s Marco Fu targets return to Crucible after being handed invitational card for World Snooker Tour

  • Hongkonger to take place among game’s elite after professional circuit gives him a 2-year pass
  • Eye surgery and coronavirus pandemic interrupted 45-year-old’s career between 2018 and 2022

Marco Fu Ka-chun said he was targeting a return to the world’s top 64 and a place at the Crucible next year after been awarded an invitational place on the World Snooker Tour.

The Hongkonger will get to spend at least the next two years among the elite of the game having endured some tough times, with eye surgery and the coronavirus pandemic interrupting his career between 2018 and 2022.

Fu’s enjoyed his first full year back last season, which despite the high of the reaching the final of the Hong Kong Masters, ultimately ended with him dropping off the circuit.

He has now been given the chance to continue competing as a professional and is excited for the challenge ahead.

“I am very grateful to be offered this opportunity by World Snooker Tour,” the 45-year-old said. “I’ve spent 25 years on the circuit, but the last few have been really challenging. To be given this chance to continue and represent Hong Kong and China for another two years makes me extremely proud.

“I will be working as hard as ever to prove I am a player who can still perform and represent our sport at the highest level. I am very happy and excited.”
