The draw for the 21st edition of the popular tournament, which will be held over May 26-28, took place on Wednesday, with 16 teams to battle for the main title – 10 of them flying in from overseas.

Former England international Les Ferdinand was on hand for the draw as the guest of honour, and will be keeping a keen eye on proceedings with his old club Newcastle in action once again.

Newcastle, who defeated Scottish giants Rangers in the 2019 final, will also face hosts Hong Kong Football Club and the Hong Kong Football Club Captain’s Select in group C.

Aston Villa, who have won the tournament a record six times, will play Rangers in group A, as well as Tai Po FC and the Yau Yee League Select.

“We are thrilled the tournament is resuming after the challenges brought on by the pandemic over the last three years,” said Tony Bratsanos, chairman of the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens Organising Committee.
