Hong Kong women’s triple jump record broken twice in 1 day; Shannon Chan says she can go further
- Full-time teacher leaps 12.99m on final day of Hong Kong Athletics Series event at Wan Chai Sports Ground
- Coming up just short of 13 metres motivation enough for Chan to keep pushing forward
Triple jumper Shannon Chan broke the women’s Hong Kong record twice on Sunday, and said falling just 0.01m short of the 13-metre mark was motivation to keep pushing forward.
On the final day of the first athletics series event of the year at Wan Chai Sports Ground, the 24-year-old hit 12.88m with her second attempt, just 0.01m further than her previous personal best set in May.
She hit 12.99m on her fourth attempt, sealing first place and earning her plenty of applause from the crowd.
“To be honest, I haven’t thought about breaking the record two times in one meet,” she said. “I know I can break some, because my technique on hopping and jumping has improved, but I dare not say how many.”
The full-time teacher said she knew she was capable of reaching 13m, but it would need to be in good conditions.
“The renovated Wan Chai Sports Ground is a good place to do better results with its softer track,” she added.
