The clean-up effort at the golf course of Shek O Country Club will run well into next week after Typhoon Mangkhut caused the lower nine holes of the 99-year-old club to become completely submerged on Sunday.

Downed trees and broken fences will take days to clear as the water retreats, according to the course’s general manager, Paul Brown.
“We got flooded on the lower nine [holes],” Brown said. “There’s a lot of debris everywhere and quite a lot of trees down. We are closed.”
Videos circulated on Sunday showing a section of the golf course, which runs near Shek O beach, completely under water as it is buffeted by the typhoon.
Brown said the typhoon wreaked even more carnage on the club than last year’s Typhoon Hato, which battered Hong Kong and led to the deaths of 12 people in Macau.
