Hong Kong running fraternity mourns death of 'Mr Yip'

The local distance running community is mourning Yip Lun-ming, who died on Sunday at the age of 93.

Mr Yip, as he was known by runners young and old, was a regular feature in races ranging from 5km up to the full marathon.

He competed well into his 80s and would sign up for triathlons when there were no other races to run.

Among his achievements was a marathon gold medal in the 1997 World Masters Games in Durban, South Africa.

After the race he was presented with his medal by a bare-chested Zulu woman.

He became so well-known he appeared in TV commercials for sportswear companies and government information services.
