And officials expect some of the country’s biggest names to take part in October, with Janet Lin Xiyu back to defend the individual title she won in Hong Kong at the same stage of the series last year, when Typhoon Koinu battered the city.

Also lined up for the three-day competition, which sees amateurs play with professionals in a team competition for the first two rounds, are Lin’s Asian Games teammates Yin Ruoning, who finished in a tie for second at the Women’s Open on Sunday, and Liu Yu.

The series returns to Asia after previous stops in Florida, Seoul and London already this season, with the final leg set for Riyadh in November.

With the event held from October 4 to 6, and with US$1 million up for grabs, organisers are also hoping the Golden Week holiday, which falls at the same time, will attract large crowds to the World Cup Course.

“Bringing the Aramco Team Series to Shenzhen represents a significant milestone for both Shenzhen and Mission Hills, heralding the return of the Ladies European Tour to China for three days of thrilling elite competition,” said Tenniel Chu, vice-chairman of Mission Hills Group.
