Asian Tour: Talor Gooch, Anirban Lahiri among 4 LIV Golf stars added to Hong Kong Open field
- The Asian Tour’s International Series event is attracting host of stars from Saudi-backed league, with Hong Kong expected to host LIV event in 2024
A quartet of LIV Golf stars have signed up for the Hong Kong Open, with the city expected to be on the Saudi-backed league’s schedule for 2024.
Talor Gooch, Anirban Lahiri, Matt Jones and Eugenio Chacarra, have joined a stacked field that already includes Cameron Smith and defending champion Wade Ormsby.
Sources in the city had previously said that Hong Kong Golf Club was preparing to host the event in March, making the International Series event in November an ideal opportunity for players to get reacquainted with the Fanling course.
While the likes of Lahiri and Smith are no strangers to the tournament, Gooch, who has won three times this year, will be making his Hong Kong Open debut.
Gooch and Smith are two of the three LIV Golf stars in contention, along with American Bryson DeChambeau, for the 2023 LIV Golf Individual Champion crown to be decided at Royal Greens in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia between October 13 and 15.
Between them, Gooch and Smith have combined to win five of the first 12 regular season LIV Golf tournaments, with Gooch leading with three titles to Smith’s two. A top 10 finish for Gooch at the LIV Golf Invitational in Chicago has him in contention for the individual title on 162 points in the individual standings, eight behind Smith’s leading 170.
