Talor Gooch holes dramatic birdie at final hole to win LIV Golf Andalucia, claims third title of stellar season
- American edges out Bryson DeChambeau by one shot at Real Club Valderrama
- Gooch adds to wins in Adelaide and Singapore to stake claim to US Ryder Cup spot
Talor Gooch birdied the final hole of a thrilling LIV Golf Andalucia to grab a one-shot win over Bryson DeChambeau, sealing his third title of the season.
The 31-year-old American sent a curling 15-foot putt into the heart of the hole on 18 to finish with a four-under-par 67, leaving him 12-under overall at Real Club Valderrama.
Gooch’s win was his third of the season, following ones in Adelaide and Singapore, and he is the first player on the circuit to win three times. Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson have two wins each.
The US$4 million prize money took his earnings for the year to $13,376,583 in eight LIV events, and also reinforced the belief he should be one of US Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson’s picks for the tournament in Rome in September.
“Last year I didn’t get a win, so this year I was just so focused on getting an individual win,” Gooch said. “You don’t think much past the first one until you get the first one. I definitely didn’t have three in mind for the season.”
Tied heading down the last, Gooch said he knew a par wouldn’t be enough.
