LIV Golf reveals 14-event plan, US$405m in purses for 2023
- LIV Golf plans to expand its global footprint in 2023, with tournaments expected in North America, Latin America, Australia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East
- The organisation said players will be expected to take part in International Series events on the Asian Tour, giving them a total of 25 playing opportunities in all
The 48 players in the LIV Golf League will compete in 14 tournaments with US$405 million in combined purses in 2023.
Organisers announced the plans for next year on Wednesday, the day before the start of the upstart league’s third-ever tournament, this one in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The controversial Saudi-backed series is holding eight tournaments with US$255 million in prize money this year, its inaugural season.
Star players recruited by LIV Golf chief executive Greg Norman include major winners Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Sergio Garcia.
LIV Golf said 48 players and 12 team franchises would compete in a 14-event Golf League next year. Players will be competing for $405 million in prize money, with the season culminating in a team match-play grand finale.
Organisers emphasised the schedule would “not compete with the majors, international team events or heritage events”.
The full list of tournaments will be announced at a later date.
LIV Golf League players will also be expected to compete in International Series tournaments - events staged in partnership with the Asian Tour.
