- South Korea’s Joohyung Kim finishes top of order of merit with season earnings of US$507,553
Sadom Kaewkanjana’s bogey-free final round at the SMBC Singapore Open on Sunday did more than just win him the biggest title of his fledgling career, it also secured him a place at this year’s Open Championship.
The Thai golfer’s two-under par 69 at Sentosa Golf Club moved him to 13-under for the tournament, earned him a US$225,000 winner’s cheque and jumped him to second place in the order of merit after the final event of the Asian Tour’s 2020-21 season.
Joohyung Kim and Yuto Katsuragawa finished three shots back in a tie for second, which was enough for Kim to end the season at the top of the money list, with season earnings of US$507,553.
Katsuragawa shot a 68 while Kim signed for a 69. Sihwan Kim, who started the day sharing the lead, carded a 73 to take fourth. The top four have all qualified for the Open at St Andrews.
The victory continued Sadom’s remarkable recent run of form: in the final three months of last year, he won five times in Thailand, including the Thailand Open.
“This is amazing, it wasn’t easy,” said Sadom, who was also bogey free on Saturday. “It has taken a lot of hard work to get here, especially over the last two years. This is a great way to start the year. I hope it’s the start of a great year.”
