This year the action takes place in France for the first time, only the second time the tournament has ever been held outside of the US or the UK.

All eyes will be on the US team, not only because they are the holders but because they have recalled Tiger Woods and the veteran has just won his first tournament in five years.

What is the Ryder Cup?

Taking place every two years, the Ryder Cup sees teams from Europe and the US battle it out for a trophy named after English seed merchant Samuel Ryder, who donated it. The competition was initially between the US and a British representative team, with the first official tournament held in 1927. Since 1979 it has been a European team, with golfers from across the continent eligible to play the Americans.
