Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu said he would “give it all” for the remaining races of the season as his Formula One future hangs by a thread, hours after Williams said they were open to discussing rookie Franco Colapinto joining the Swiss-based outfit.

Set to become the Audi factory team in 2026, other than Red Bull-owned RB, Sauber are the only ones on the grid not to have confirmed their line-up for next year. Nico Hulkenberg has joined from Haas, but is waiting to find out who his teammate will be.

With current driver Valtteri Bottas reportedly “top of the list” of those Sauber are considering for 2025, Zhou is also facing a challenge from Colapinto, and Brazilian F2 leader Gabriel Bortoleto, as he bids to stay in the sport.

And ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, China’s first and only F1 driver said he had a “very straightforward” task, which was to “fight for the seat”.

“I’m trying to … give it all I have for the remaining races that can hopefully show the people, show [team boss] Mattia [Binotto] what I can do, and … making a performance he wants to see,” Zhou said. “I would say there’s a 50 per cent [chance] of me staying, but you never know. This is … the brutal thing about this sport. You never know what will happen or what exactly you will be faced with.”

A Plan B is also not a priority for Zhou at the moment, even as options seem open to him in other championships. Formula E’s Jeff Dodds, for instance, has been vocal about wanting Zhou in the all-electric series.
