Our wrap-up of all the overnight action has moved to a new time, but there’s a reason for the proverb “the more things change, the more they stay the same”.

Normal service was resumed in England, with Manchester City getting back to winning ways and their neighbours losing at home. The NFL is supposedly a passing league, but the Philadelphia Eagles have been going old-school with the running game, and snooker has a new-old world champion.

The Premier League though is where we’ll start today’s look at what happened while you were sleeping, and it’s all about the joy of six in Suffolk.

City till he dies

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola watched Phil Foden score twice in his side’s 6-0 hammering of Ipswich Town, and then said he wanted the England international to follow in Erling Haaland’s footsteps by committing to the club for life.

Haaland also hit the target, days after signing a ridiculous 9½-year contract, and there were goals too for Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic and James McAtee.

“He should not [leave],” Guardiola said of Foden, whose current deal runs until 2027. “He can be a one-club man and finish his career here and play many, many years.”

The City manager also said the result, which lifted his side to fourth in the table, showed they “are back”, but acknowledged “qualification for the Champions League next season will be really tough”.

The worst team in history

There is no need to beat up on Reuben Amorim, he seems to be doing a good enough job himself at the moment.
