From Monday, our morning wrap-up of things you need to know will be available at 8.30am on SCMP.com; Coffee & Sports will be saved for big events, such as the Rugby Sevens and National Games. But don’t worry, we’ll give you plenty of notice on how to sign up for these signature events.

Meanwhile, our Sporting Weekend newsletter will still find its way to you, although in a slightly changed format. If you haven’t already signed up for it, why not, it’s a must-read on Saturday, even if we do say so ourselves. The link to do that is here, and we appreciate you staying with us.

Can anyone stop Liverpool?

Darwin Nunez was Arne Slot’s hero with two stoppage-time goals as the Reds won 2-0 at Brentford.

Back-to-back draws for Liverpool in their last two English Premier League matches looked like becoming three on the spin to give neutrals hope this “mini crisis” could see a genuine title fight.

But Nunez had other ideas: his first came in the 91st minute, before he added a second two minutes later.

Victory opened up a seven-point lead over second place Arsenal – with a game in hand. And Liverpool’s day was made even sweeter as the Gunners blew a two-goal lead draw 2-2 at home to former manager Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz had seemingly put the hosts in control before Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins pulled the visitors level as the Villans looked to thwart Arsenal’s title hopes for a second successive season.

Elsewhere in England’s top flight, Newcastle’s winning run was emphatically ended as Justin Kluivert’s hat-trick inspired Bournemouth to a 4-1 victory at St James’ Park, while Graham Potter’s West Ham were beaten 2-0 at home by Crystal Palace.
