Fantasy Premier League: splash your Saka cash on Isak, or bet on Foden, City getting better
The title cannot be won over Christmas, but it can certainly be lost in a haze of mince pies and parties. Here are some tips for Gameweek 18
While Premier League titles cannot be won over Christmas – although the team at the top of the table in four of the past six seasons has gone on to be crowned champions – Fantasy Premier League managers can take advantage of those who neglect their side in exchange for mince pies, presents and mulled wine.
With fixtures coming thick and fast, it could be make or break time for those of you looking for bragging rights in your work mini-league or trying to get one over on family and friends.
And, with clubs playing three Premier League fixtures in 12 days, there is no time to mess about. So, let us get into Gameweek 18. Here are your best FPL picks for the holidays.
Saka replacements
Bukayo Saka (£10.4m) came off in the 23rd minute of Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday and left Selhurst Park on crutches. His price has since dropped by 0.1 million as 1.25 million managers shipped him out.
Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal boss, said that the England international’s hamstring injury was “not looking good”.
“He’s going to be out for many weeks,” Arteta said. “I cannot be too specific because I don’t know, but it will be many weeks.
“It’s a huge blow. He’s obviously a big player for us, and you just have to see the impact that he has had on the team. But it’s going to be a really good exercise for us to think of ways to overcome another challenge because we’ve had a lot over the season.”
And if you were thinking about doing a straight swap for Raheem Sterling (£6.7m) you’re out of luck there too – Arteta also ruled him out with a knee injury.
“He is going to be out for weeks, I believe,” the Spaniard said. “He needs further testing tomorrow [Tuesday] to understand the extent of his injury. Unfortunately, he’s going to be out for a while.”
