Yesterday was one of those days in Hong Kong when it felt as though there was more sport than was reasonably necessary, and that was before the Formula One and Premier League got going.

The Longines International Races reached a thrilling climax, with Romantic Warrior sealing a third title, Egypt’s Nouran Gohar battled back to win the women’s squash tournament while becoming world No 1 in the process, and Hong Kong’s men moved a step closer to the East Asian Football Federation finals next year.

And then the real fun began, unless you were Australian. In which case, it was a bad day to be called Oscar Piastri or Ange Postecoglou. So, here’s what happened after the sun went down.

Much like Liverpool manager Arne Slot, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is talking down his side’s title chances – and no one believes him either.

Two Cole Palmer penalties, one of them a cheeky chip down the middle, plus goals from Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez helped Chelsea roar back from 2-0 down inside 11 minutes to beat Tottenham 4-3 in another Premier League thriller on Sunday.

Victory cut Liverpool’s lead to four points, after the Merseyside derby was postponed because of Storm Darragh, and was Chelsea’s fourth in a row in the league. It was, according to the Italian “the perfect win”.

“The fans can dream because from the outside, it is quite clear and inside, the reality is we are not ready [to win the league] but the important thing is we improve day by day,” Maresca said.
