Would Leicester fans have been as enthusiastic at landing Erik ten Hag as they are at the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy?

It’s just interesting – to an extent – when you compare the pair’s CVs. They simply don’t and it’s quite telling how perception really is everything.

Anyway, here’s a better look into that deal and everything else that happened while you were sleeping.

It’s an appointment which had been mooted for days but Leicester have confirmed the former Manchester United forward, assistant and interim boss as their new manager.

During his short stint in the Old Trafford dugout, his four matches in interim charge included 5-2 and 3-0 victories over the Foxes before being let go by new United boss Ruben Amorim.

Furthermore, he scored a hat-trick against Leicester while playing up front for United in 2003, in what, incidentally, was the very next match after the ex-Netherlands international’s late penalty miss had sparked the “Battle of Old Trafford” against Arsenal.

Van Nistelrooy’s only previous full-time managerial experience was at PSV Eindhoven, the club he really made his name at as a player, where he spent the 2022-23 season.
