Hong Kong ‘up for fight’ against ‘aggressive’ Mauritius, as Westwood hunts another win
The Englishman is on Tuesday aiming to become first city coach since 2016 to win 3 successive matches, after wins over Cambodia, Philippines
Ashley Westwood promised Hong Kong would be “up for the fight” when they face “fast, physical and aggressive” Mauritius at Mong Kok Stadium on Tuesday night.
Englishman Westwood is aiming to become the first Hong Kong boss since Kim Pan-gon in 2016 to win three successive matches, after victories over the Philippines and Cambodia in their past two outings.
If they avoid defeat, Hong Kong will guarantee themselves a place in pot two for next month’s AFC Asian Cup qualifying draw.
Westwood, who is set to make only one change from the team that beat the Philippines at Hong Kong Stadium last week, with Wong Wai replacing Jesse Yu Joy-yin in midfield, insisted he was not thinking about the repercussions of Tuesday’s result.
“We want to keep evolving and developing our style and system,” he said. “We are developing team spirit, camaraderie, unity, work rate and the desire to win.
“If you apply yourselves, listen and learn, results take care of themselves. If we improve every in game, we will start winning more than we lose.”
