There is a familiar look to the Premier League this Monday morning, champions Manchester City sitting pretty at the top, a point clear and in danger of making it a one-horse race once more.

It’s only October, but Arsenal might have already blown their title chances with the draw at home against Liverpool. Mikel Arteta, predictably, said his side would keep fighting, and Arne Slot continued his theme of playing down his team’s credentials.

Manchester United, meanwhile, lost at West Ham, dropping them to 14th. As outrageous as it sounds, what odds, you wonder, would the bookies give you on relegation – surely they can’t be taking any more bets on Erik Ten Hag’s future.

And then there is Ange Postecoglou. On Sunday, Tottenham suffered the misfortune of being the first team to lose to Crystal Palace this season.

The former Celtic boss says he always wins trophies in his second year, right now the only thing Spurs are in danger of winning is the league’s equivalent of the participation medals they give to the athletically challenged kids in school – or a Europa League place as it’s known.
