After an impressive start, it’s been a tricky few weeks for my team – but the trick is to not panic and to plan for the long term

It’s now a month since I took charge of the Fantasy Premier League blog for the Post, and would love to tell you that my hot streak has continued and that I am still among the best managers in the world.

But that is most certainly not the case.

I activated my Wildcard in Gameweek 6, bringing in William Saliba (£6.0m) for the double Arsenal defence as well as Bukayo Saka (£10.1m). While Saka scored me 16 points last week, at the other end of the pitch, their once-watertight defence has shipped three goals in two games.

And that is not even the worst of it.

My new front three consists of Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m), Erling Haaland (£15.4m) and Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood (£6.2m), who have scored a combined total of 17 points in two weeks. But Wood’s eight-point haul against Chelsea was useless to me as I’d left him on the bench.

From the dizzy heights of being within the top 58,000 managers in the world, two weeks of bad decisions have seen me plummet more than 1.2 million places.
