You know how people have been saying there’s too much football on? Well, never has that been more evident than today.

On an evening when little else was going on, other than discovering Donald Trump isn’t only one who is afraid of Taylor Swift, there was plenty of football to keep you occupied.

So, here’s what happened while you were sleeping.

Same old story

Like the Uefa Champions League, its less popular cousin, the Europa League, has also undergone radical format changes this season. But it was the same old story for Manchester United, as they contrived to draw the “Erik ten Hag” derby against FC Twente at Old Trafford.

Christian Eriksen’s powerful shot had given the hosts a first-half lead against their manager’s boyhood club, but a lapse in concentration from the Dane in the second half allowed Sam Lammers to equalise.

Elsewhere in the competition, two-time winners FC Porto were stunned 3-2 by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt and Lazio fans were found with meat pounders among their armoury of weapons as arrests were made ahead of their clash with Dynamo Kyiv in Hamburg.

The match took place in Germany as the home side were unable to stage matches in the Ukrainian capital because of the war with Russia. Lazio ran out 3-0 winners as both sides had a man sent off.

Young Gunners

It was a tale of youth and experience as Arsenal beat Bolton 5-1 in the English League Cup.
