Lim, a former stockbroker, bought a majority stake in Valencia in May 2014 through his Hong Kong-based investment company Meriton Holdings Limited.

Thousands of Valencia supporters boycotted the team’s final home match of the 2023/24 season on Sunday, May 19, in the latest public demonstration against Lim’s control of the club.

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Valencia finished this La Liga campaign in ninth place, with 49 points, under head coach Rubén Baraja.

A prominent supporters’ association, Libertad VCF (“Free VCF”), had called on Valencia fans to leave the 49,430-capacity Mestalla stadium empty for the team’s game against Girona to instead join a protest outside the ground while the match was being played.
