Ex-Hong Kong boss Andersen begins job with Chinese League One side Yunnan, targets defender Tsui as first signing
- Yunnan Yukun have lost just once in 12 matches and are top of China League One in their debut season
- Andersen is reportedly set on signing Hong Kong defender Tsui Wang-kit, while assistant coach Ben Cheung is also poised to join him
Former Hong Kong head coach Jorn Andersen has started his tenure at Chinese League One outfit Yunnan Yukun, and while neither side has officially confirmed the move, the Norwegian is believed to have signed an 18-month contract with the league leaders.
Having quit Hong Kong in a shock move last Wednesday, Andersen arrived in Suzhou in time to watch his new charges draw 0-0 with Suzhou Dongwu three days later.
Andersen is expected to be in the dugout for the first time when Yunnan host Shijiazhuang Gongfu, currently fifth on the table, this weekend, and the Post has been told one of his first moves as boss will be to sign Hong Kong right-back Tsui Wang-kit.
The Lee Man defender, who had two years in China League One with Meizhou Hakka from January 2018, was left out of the current representative squad to resolve his future. He has one year remaining on his Lee Man contract, but is not expected to stay.
Chinese media reports have also indicated Andersen will take one member of his Hong Kong staff, with Ben Cheung, who was part of the Norwegian’s backroom team for last year’s historic Asian Games semi-final run, among the names suggested.
In announcing his resignation, Andersen said the opportunity to coach in the China was an offer he “simply could not refuse”.
