- Louis Suarez opens his account for new team, who face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr on Thursday before flying to Hong Kong
Luis Suarez scored and Lionel Messi also hit the target in a losing cause, as Inter Miami kicked off their tour of Saudi Arabia with a 4-3 defeat to Al Hilal.
The Major League Soccer team are playing two games in the oil-rich kingdom as part of their preseason preparations, but even Messi could not inspire them to victory in Riyadh.
While the World Cup winner got on the score sheet with a second-half penalty, it was Brazilian forward Malcolm who had the last word of an entertaining contest, scoring the winner two minutes from time.
Al-Hilal had been strongly linked with a move for Messi when he left Paris Saint-Germain and became the most sought-after free agent in the sport last year.
He ultimately opted for a move to the United States to join David Beckham’s Miami and quickly led the team to its first trophy, the Leagues Cup.
The Argentinian will be hoping for even more success in his first full season and, the preparations include an extensive tour with a game against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr on Thursday, is followed by stops in Hong Kong this weekend, and Japan next week.
