QPR boss Les Ferdinand hoping to find next Jack Grealish at Hong Kong Soccer Sevens tournament
- Manchester City’s £100 million (US$127 million) star played at the event on three occasions for former club Aston Villa
- Ferdinand is now director of football at Queens Park Rangers and will use the tournament to scout potential loan signings
Former England striker Les Ferdinand is hoping to unearth the next Jack Grealish at the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens later this month.
Manchester City’s £100 million (US$127 million) star played at the event on three occasions for former club Aston Villa, and is just the latest participant to enjoy a career at the peak of the professional game.
Other players to have passed through the doors at Hong Kong Football Club include Marc Albrighton, who won the Premier League with Leicester City, and Poland international and Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Ferdinand, who is now director of football at Championship side Queens Park Rangers, said the three-day tournament, which will run from May 26 to 28, was an opportunity to scout emerging talent.
And while he might not be able to buy from Premier League clubs, he could certainly try and take a young player on loan.
“People like myself come to these types of tournaments to watch and we know we can’t buy players out of the Premier League,” Ferdinand said.
