Brazilian star Neymar said his injury-hit 2019 was “full of learnings” as he looks forward to making a strong comeback this year by targeting domestic, European and Copa America honours.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker suffered two major injuries last year that limited his appearances for club and country but has been in fine form this season, scoring 13 goals in 15 appearances – 11 in the French Ligue 1, one in the Cup and one in the Uefa Champions League.
“Professionally and personally, 2019 was a tough year for me,” said Neymar, speaking to Red Bull which is organising his Neymar Jnr Fives development programme. “It was a year full of learnings and turnarounds. I injured myself and had to come back. Then I injured myself again.
“Although it seems like a bad year, it was a year full of learnings and lots of experiences. I am taking the positive side of it so that 2020 can be better.”
Neymar suffered a foot injury playing for PSG in January, 2019 that kept him out for 85 days. Soon after returning, he damaged ankle ligaments in a friendly for Brazil against Qatar, ruling him out of the Copa America.
