Newcastle United’s Matty Longstaff completed his journey from Hong Kong Soccer Sevens starlet to English Premier League saviour on Sunday when the stand-out performer from this year’s Sports Road extravaganza netted a crucial winning goal for the Magpies against Manchester United and fulfilled a lifelong dream.

The 19-year-old midfielder became the youngest player to score a Premier League debut goal for Newcastle when he bagged the only goal of the game in the second half at St James’ Park to secure three points that dragged his club out of the relegation zone.

It could have been even better for the youngster, who was named man of the match, after he smashed a first-half effort against the crossbar from long range against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s beleaguered team.

That Longstaff got to score the winner on his Premier League debut against Britain’s biggest club alongside his older brother Sean in the middle of the Magpies’ midfield made it even more special.

“Last night you go to bed dreaming of it but you never think it will happen,” Longstaff said.
