Barcelona to shun China, Manchester United might miss Spurs in Shanghai and trouble for PSG vs Inter Milan in Macau
- French champions to meet Italian giants in Macau but stadium organisers claimed to know nothing about the match
- Spanish club will go to Japan but no word on mainland while Manchester United might have no choice but to skip Shanghai for Europa League qualifiers
Spanish champions Barcelona will not play in China this summer, according to reports.
The La Liga side had announced last year that they would return to the mainland as part of this summer’s Asia Tour but sporting director Eric Abidal has said this is no longer the case as per ESPN reports cited elsewhere.
Ernesto Valverde’s side were set to visit both Japan and China but that has become a two-game trip to Japan.
While Barcelona have confirmed they will play Vissel Kobe and Chelsea in July, there is still no word on any matches in the mainland. The club has not made an official statement to confirm or deny the China leg of their tour yet.
French champions PSG were announced as playing Inter Milan in Macau as part of the newly created International Champions Cup, a joint venture between Lagardere Sports and Kaisa Group. This will be the first game of PSG’s three-match China tour which ends with the French season curtain-raiser Trophee des Champions against cup winners Rennes in Shenzhen in August.
