Chasing the 112 to win set by Sapphires, Warriors knocked the runs off with 44 balls to spare thanks largely to Litchfield’s brutal innings, which included 16 fours, one six and came off just 37 deliveries.

The young Australian put on 70 for the third wicket alongside captain Sindhu Sriharsha (10), and when she was eventually run out by Hong Kong’s Kary Chan, the Warriors were just seven runs short of their target at 105 for three.

After losing the toss, Sapphires made a steady start to their innings, with openers Katie Mack and Gaby Lewis putting on 30 runs relatively quickly, but Kathryn Bryce trapped Mack LBW for 21, and then had Lewis (13) caught as the batting side slipped to 36 for two in the seventh over.

Bryce finished with figures of three for 25 from her four overs, while Amanda-Jade Wellington picked up two wickets, and Hayley Matthews accounted for the dangerous Katherine Sciver-Brunt, who was going at a run a ball when she was caught and bowled for 20.

Sapphires were 87 for four when Sciver-Brunt fell, and only a quick 12 runs from Tash Farrant at the end got them into triple figures.
