Bresnan and Trott were two of the drawcard names at the 2008 edition of the previously annual competition, which attracted a host of star names to the city.

The Cricket Sixes was a feature of the local sporting calender between 1992 and 2012. It was revived for an 18th edition in 2017, but has not been held since.

Bresnan made the explosive claim on the Shackles Are Off podcast, in which he discussed his mental health issues before talking about the incident.

He said the two later discovered they had ketamine in their systems. He did not specify where he thought the incident took place.

“I got drugged in Hong Kong. We were in the Hong Kong Sixes, myself and Jonny Trott, and we got spiked,” Bresnan said. “They reckon it was ketamine, there were traces in our system. But we got to Loughborough and got the drug tests and stuff, the voluntary ones. I’d lost the plot by then anyway,” he added.
