FIS World Cup: China’s skiers win aerials team gold as Xu Mengtao, Sun Jiaxu triumph again

Superfinal of the mixed team event in Lake Placid settled by dominant display from the Chinese trio

China’s strong performance at the FIS Freestyle World Cup continued with gold in the aerials mixed team event in the United States.

The trio of Xu Mengtao, Sun Jiaxu and Li Xinpeng overturned a third-place finish in the first round by dominating the superfinal on Sunday in Lake Placid, New York state.

They recorded three clean landings, scoring 328.41 points to claim the top spot.

Alexandra Montminy, Miha Fontaine and Alexandre Duchaine scored 289.17 points to win silver for Team Canada 2. Australia’s Abbey Willcox, Laura Peel and Reilly Flanagan were third with 277.63 points.

Xu had won the women’s individual aerial category the day before – a feat matched by Sun, with his shock success in the men’s.
