Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang denies accusations made in Weibo post
Swimmer’s management ‘gathering evidence and we shall report to the public security bureau if necessary’
Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang has denied accusations of infidelity on social media platform Weibo, purportedly made by his fiancée.
The Olympic champion’s management released a statement denying the claims and describing the allegations as malicious slander that severely damaged the reputation of the 25-year-old.
The statement said the accusations, posted on Monday by an account claimed to belong to Qin’s fiancée, were entirely false and had been deliberately aimed at harming the athlete’s image.
“[We are] currently at the stage of gathering evidence and we shall report to the public security bureau if necessary,” it said.
Qin was a member of the China 4x100m medley relay team who this year claimed Olympic gold in Paris – the first time since the event’s inclusion in 1960 that the United States had competed and not won.
