China’s ‘king of the pool’ Qin Haiyang focused on next challenge after dominating World Aquatics Championships

China’s Qin Haiyang said he was “ready for the future” after sweeping all before him at the World Aquatics Championships, and laying down a marker for next year’s Olympics.

The 24-year-old dominated the breaststroke events in Japan, setting a world record time of two minutes, 5.48 seconds to claim gold in the 200m n Friday, to go with his 50m and 100m crowns.

Qin also starred as China’s men claimed victory in the 4x100m medley relay at the Marine Messe Fukuoka venue.

But moments after claiming his historic third gold, Qin said he would hang his medals on the wall and “start a new challenge”.

“When I finished the race, that was the end of it,” Qin said. “Now everything starts again with a new beginning.”

Fans on Chinese social media were also excited to witness the dominance of a Chinese swimmer, calling Qin a “genius” and “the king of the world”.
